The MCD was founded in 1890. Initially, it was referred to as the Delhi Municipal Committee. Guru Radha Kishan was the first mayor of Delhi, and Trilok Chand Sharma was its first councilor.
The MCD was amended in 1993, when it was renamed as a separate corporation under the government of India. The corporation is responsible for the maintenance of the city’s eight wards.
